Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), a towering figure in 20^th century painting, was known as a pioneer of abstraction. He was not a mathematician, but he respected the subject, and many of his ideas were mathematical in nature or he expressed them in mathematical ways. We survey these aspects of Kandinsky, discuss examples, and take note of two small errors he committed.
