Abstract

This article suggests ways in which the artwork of the African people can be used to introduce certain geometric concepts to secondary school students. Some examples for the symmetry groups for one-dimensional patterns in African artwork are presented. Further suggestions are provided on construction of the regular polygons that lead to some of the motifs found in African designs. Suggestions are made for the use of some design pieces to prove geometry theorems
